Jacob Benson

Guiding Since 2022

Having lived on Mount Desert Island all his life, Jacob discovered his passion for the outdoors at a young age. Whether it was climbing trees, hiking, biking, swimming, or running, he spent any time he could exploring nature.

In 2020, Jacob was introduced to climbing as a search and rescue team member and went climbing for the first time with Acadia Mountain Guides. After just one guiding session, he was hooked and did everything he could to learn all the systems and skills required to take others out climbing.

Now Jacob is studying math and math education at Whitman College in Washington and was able to combine his love for rock climbing and passion for teaching through guiding. He also has an active leadership role as part of the Climbing Club at Whitman which attempts to make outdoor climbing more accessible to all, specifically for BIPOC communities.

Besides Acadia, Jacob’s favorite climbing areas have been Leavenworth, Joshua Tree, Smith Rock, and Banff. However, as he continues his climbing education, he keeps looking to discover more crags and bigger walls
