ICE CLIMBING

Ice Climbing in Acadia National Park

Half-day (4 hour) and full-day (7 hour) guided climbing sessions are available in Acadia National Park pending ice conditions.

Led by experienced guides, a day climbing in Acadia is an excellent introduction to waterfall ice climbing for those with little to no experience. During these sessions, you will get the opportunity to swing tools, kick in crampons, and give ice climbing a try. Also, you will become familiar with rope skills such as knots, belaying and rappelling.

Already an experienced ice or rock climber? We tailor our climbing sessions to your needs and objectives. Acadia has something for everybody, from low angle slabs to steep icicles over the ocean, even some multi-pitch climbs!

Ice Climbing in Camden, Grafton Notch, Western Maine

Full-day (7 hour) guided climbing sessions are available in locations outside of Acadia National Park. Camden Hills, Grafton Notch, Mount Kineo*, Katahdin* and even Bangor! all have great climbing given the right conditions.

While there are plenty of beginner climbs across Maine, we recommend you have prior ice climbing experience to get the most out of your day climbing in these locations.

Ice Climbing in New Hampshire

While not in our “backyard” we do offer full-day (7 hour) guided ice climbing across New Hampshire. From single-pitch cragging to multi-pitch alpine routes the White Mountains have a wide variety of terrain to choose from for us to facilitate the right experience for beginner to advanced ice climbers.

Locations include but are not limited to Mount Willard, Frankenstein, North Conway, Mount Washington*, Cannon Cliff*, The Flume, Kinsman Notch, and Northern New Hampshire.

*Climbing more committing route  requires establishing a client-guide relationship. This often means scheduling a “shake-out” day with your guide to determine the route is the right fit for you.

Alpine Mountaineering on Katahdin and Mount Washington.

The Cilley-Barber, Waterfall Gully, Pamola Ice Cliffs, Pinnacle Gully, Yale Gully, Damnation Gully, Odell’s Gully, Etc.

Spend a day, or more in New England’s finest alpine environments climbing famous snow and ice gullies. You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy some of the best alpine climbing in the east, but you should have completed at least an introductory ice course prior to this one. Huntington Ravine has long been a training ground for alpinists who are seeking to climb in the greater ranges, and Katahdin offers some of the most remote climbing around. Here you can “put it all together” combining snow and ice climbing along with avalanche awareness and winter travel skills. As with any winter mountaineering venture, these courses are subject to mother nature’s variables.

Optional Early Start: Add a late afternoon and evening to your trip and awaken only a few minutes from the base of your climb. Following classic European style, we will spend the night in the warmth of the Harvard Cabin at the base of Huntington Ravine where climbers have long spun tall tales of climbing adventures around the world.
