Ryan Delena

Guiding Since 2020

If you look at the Mountain Project page for Acadia National Park, chances are you’ll see Ryan’s name pop up a lot. That’s because Ryan is passionate about both exploring every bit of climbing the island has to offer, and sharing it with others. This pretty much encapsulates his guiding philosophy, which is to give others a better start than he had in his early days of climbing.

Ryan began climbing mountains in 2019 as a means to reach ski lines, before ultimately discovering rock climbing was equally as meaningful to him as skiing. Since then, Ryan has been eager to spend as much time on the cliff as possible. In pursuit of his passion, Ryan has been on expeditions to Antarctica, Baffin Island, Svalbard, and more. No matter where he’s been, he has always loved New England for its incredible access to climbing and skiing, as well as its tough, enthusiastic community.

Ryan discovered guiding as a profession after meeting mentors when he was a teenager. Ryan is passionate about helping others progress their skills in the mountains, and brings infectious energy to his sessions.

When he’s not climbing or skiing, he enjoys writing, and has recently published a book called “Without Restraint”, which details the role the mountains played in helping him grow from trauma.
